It has been 10 years since I watched this. At that time, I thought it was the most beautiful Italian movie I’ve ever seen even though there were some controversies since it depicted the second world war.

After watching it again last night, I still think it’s the most beautiful Italian movie! I couldn’t resist getting the DVD when I saw it while I was in London ofcourse
Because I like to keep good movies. We learn a lot from them.
This story is a simple one about a simple waiter with a colourful imagination and the charms and sense of humour that makes him delightful. The woman he loved fell in love with him and they have a beautiful son! He’s absolutely gorgeous! There’s something about Italians, their language and their mannerisms that makes them completely irresistible!
On his son’s birthday, the second world war started and all Jewish people were dragged from their homes. His wife having found out demanded to be with them and left everything she had.
This story tells of how he used the gift of his imagination and humour to make the war bearable for his wife and son. How he communicated to his wife that they were fine and alive even though the men and women were separated. How the cute little boy and his innocent lack of desire to shower saved him from entering the gas chamber. How he understood his son so well and because of that, managed to preserve his life so many times from the German guards.
It does more than capture your heart and make you laugh. This is a story that exhibits the power of love and the human spirit.
A beautiful masterpiece!
P/s: This is the kind of movie children should be watching! Not High School Musical…
